Windows Vista UxTheme Patcher

Are you tired of Vista's Aero theme?
A patched uxtheme.dll gave you the freedom to use un-signed custom visual style in Windows XP but in Windows Vista you have to replace three dll files to use third party visual styles.
Those three files are uxtheme.dll, shsvcs.dll and themeui.dll

How To Install

1. Login as a user with Administrative privileges -or- have Administrative credentials ready (check under the keyboard for a slip of paper).
2. Navigate to %systemroot%\System32
3. Right-click uxtheme.dll and click properties.
4. Take ownership of the file and close dialogs.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for themeui.dll and shsvcs.dll
6. Right-click uxtheme.dll and click properties.
7. Give yourself (or group) Full Control permissions and close dialogs.
8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 for themeui.dll and shsvcs.dll.
9. Rename uxtheme.dll to uxtheme.old.
10. Rename themeui.dll to themeui.old.
11. Rename shsvcs.dll to shsvcs.old.
12. Copy patched files into %systemroot%\System32
13. Reboot (yes, this is really required)
14. Enjoy!

Just wondering.. has anybody tested this patch and can confirm that it doesn't corrupt the system?

Well, you have to use it at your own risk, because even though many people have patched their Vista UXtheme without any trouble, there are a few complaints that replacing the original UXtheme.dll creates problems.

But overall its safe. To ensure maximum safety, always back up the files you are going to replace. And if you are still not sure if you would do it right, give VistaGlazz a try, it's an automated patcher that takes care of replacing and patching for you

sorry, how to edit shell32.dll because last time i edited it then my computer went error..

standupspeakup you don't have to edit anything, you just have to replace the mentioned files.

can i barrigate, i can't apply these files i.e. they don't open or maybei dont have aprogram to open .with

i cnt find themes folder.. were do i paste the downloaded them? plz help.. i hve vistaglass installed..

sugarfight, you can find your Themes folder in your Windows>Resources folder.

Which means, go to the the folder where your Windows is installed, then in Windows folder locate the 'Resources' folder and open it, here you'll see a 'Themes' folder, open it and paste your theme files in this folder.

Is it all clear now?
